Destination film production that shows a place the way travellers feel it

Destination film is not a brochure with a drone shot. It is the craft of making a place feel true — landscapes, people, food, heritage and the small moments that convince a traveller to book. Blazing Sand Studios produces destination films and series for tourism boards, airlines, hospitality groups and brands that need place-based storytelling with broadcast standards. We are registered with the Creative Media Authority in Abu Dhabi as GID Global Media Production, with operations at twofour54 Yas Creative Hub and Business Bay, Dubai. Paris Norriss, CEO of Blazing Sand Studios, has filmed destination and adventure television across the Gulf and internationally for 17 years; our shows reach audiences in 123 countries.

What destination film means in our studio

We treat destination work as a cousin of documentary and adventure television. Access, cultural respect and logistical realism matter as much as the hero aerial. Guy in the Sky was built as a series of adventures discovering the essence of each country — from Irish bog diving, the National Stud and Titanic Belfast to Saudi camel racing, hot air ballooning over Hegra, the tombs of Hegra, Dadan, the library of Ikmah and desert horse riding. That is destination storytelling with narrative stakes, not a montage of landmarks.

Who we make destination films for

  • Tourism boards and destination authorities. Hero films, seasonal campaigns and series that support visitor strategies.
  • Airlines. In-flight destination films and cut-downs that match cabin screens and marketing windows — among our verified airline clients are British Airways, Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia, Etihad Airways, Aer Lingus, SpiceJet, Iberia and LEVEL.
  • Hospitality groups. Property and destination films that sell the stay and the surrounding experience (verified hospitality client: Rotana Hotels).
  • Broadcasters and platforms. Destination adventure series for TV and streaming; verified broadcasters include Amazon Prime, Apple TV and OSN.
  • Brands and agencies. Branded destination entertainment that still has to feel authentic on location.

Formats we deliver

  • Long-form destination films and episodic series
  • Short hero films and social cut-downs in every ratio
  • Hybrid packages that combine live-action location shoots with AI-assisted sequences where the brief needs scale without inventing the place
  • Multi-language versions for Gulf, South Asian and international audiences
  • Airline and broadcast delivery masters planned from the treatment stage

Why commissioners choose a production company that already flies

Destination clients often need the same partner to film, finish and help place the work. Our distribution arm places finished films and series with broadcasters, streaming platforms and airlines across 123 countries. That changes how we shoot: captions, timing, aspect ratios and versioning are designed into the production rather than bolted on after picture lock. When a tourism board wants a film that can live on TV, in-flight and social at once, we budget for those windows upfront.

How a destination production runs

  1. Destination brief. Markets, seasons, must-have locations, cultural guidelines and usage territories.
  2. Access and fixing. Permits, location partners and crew — including UAE film fixing when shoots are in the Emirates.
  3. Narrative design. Episode or act structure that discovers the place through experiences, not a checklist of landmarks.
  4. Production. Aerial, ground and underwater capability as the story needs; safety planning for remote and high-heat environments.
  5. Post and versions. Editorial storytelling, sound, colour and deliverables for each platform.
  6. Distribution support. Placement pathways for TV, streamers and airlines where the brief includes them.

UAE base, international reach

Headquarters sit at the twofour54 campus in Abu Dhabi, with a Dubai studio in Business Bay. We are an affiliate member of UN Tourism following the Riyadh General Assembly, and Paris has hosted tourism forums including the UN Tourism meeting in Riyadh. Filming in AlUla for destination work is attributed to the Royal Commission for AlUla where relevant. Eligible UAE productions can access a rebate of up to 35% of UAE spend when they qualify.

Craft that protects the destination

We do not invent partnerships. Verified clients and partners are named carefully: Rebel Entertainment, Tadbeer and Rotana Hotels on the commercial side; Amazon Prime, Apple TV and OSN among broadcasters; the airline list above for aviation windows. Destination storytelling only works if local partners recognise themselves in the cut. That is why our producing style emphasises briefing calls, cultural review and honest episode maps before cameras roll.

Building a destination treatment around real access

Start a destination film brief with the traveller's question: what makes this place worth understanding? Select a small number of experiences that answer it. A craft workshop, a meal or a landscape journey can reveal more than a rapid succession of famous sights. Identify the people who can introduce those experiences and distinguish confirmed access from locations still awaiting permission.

A practical location matrix should record opening hours, seasonal conditions, sound restrictions, cultural considerations and the contact responsible for each location. Mark which sequences require participants, which depend on natural light and which can move if weather changes. This is not a promise that every location will be available; it is a way to make creative ambition and production reality visible before the shoot.

Think about the relationship between the hero film and its shorter versions. Each short should still communicate something specific about the destination, rather than simply accelerate the main edit. Include room for captions and translated place names in the visual plan. Ask local reviewers to check names, context and representation at an agreed stage, while changes remain manageable. Where imagery is illustrative or reconstructed, decide how audiences will recognise that distinction. A destination film should create curiosity without suggesting that an invented experience can be booked.

FAQ

What is destination film production?

It is film and series work that tells the story of a place for tourism boards, airlines, hospitality brands and broadcasters — with narrative craft, not only landmark montages.

Have you produced destination series before?

Yes. Guy in the Sky is a destination adventure series discovering countries through real experiences, and Guy in Dubai brought destination storytelling to Dubai Television across four seasons.

Can you deliver for airline in-flight screens as well as TV?

Yes. We plan airline cuts and broadcast masters from development, and our distribution network includes airline windows across 123 countries.

Do you only film in the UAE?

No. We produce internationally and provide CMA-registered fixing when productions shoot in the Emirates.

Can AI be used in destination films?

Yes, as a hybrid tool for extensions, graphics or scaled sequences — always directed and finished by humans, with rights documentation. We do not fake a destination that was never filmed.
